Serendipity between the leaders in Malingua Pamba, Engineers Without Borders and Rotary.

Paulino Sacatoro, ex-president of Malingua Pamba has been requesting a Water Treatment tank for the past few years.  Eden, the author of the Rotary International Global Grant made some money available as he is currently completing important projects in Malingua Pamba and vicinity.  Coincidentally, Terry, an expert in Waste Water, attended an Engineers Without Borders – Denver Professional Chapter meeting.  And, POW – look at the pictures to see what they made happen.

Russell led a team of three including Terry, Anna, and Josh to Ecuador in September where they were met by Diego, a local engineer.  Paulino was able to get an excavator to dig the huge hole for the three-compartment tank of the septic system.  Under the direction of Ignacio, the current president of Malingua Pamba, there was a huge minga (volunteer work) to both complete the tank and dig and lay the leach field.  The Rotary Global Grant paid for all of the materials.  Result:  a wastewater treatment plant serving the school buildings, community center, and homes in Malingua Central.
